The 2012 Washington Nationals baseball season ended shockingly and suddenly at home, in an elimination game, that certainly looked like they were going to win. Leading game 5 of the NLDS against the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals, 6-0 in the fourth inning, the Washington Nationals and everyone watching in Nationals Park thought they had a date with San Francisco Giants in the NLCS. Everyone was wrong.
The sting of the NLDS loss to the Cardinals will start to fade this week as the Washington Nationals report to Spring Training in Viera, Florida to begin the 2013 season. As one of the preseason favorites to win the World Series, the Nationals can not afford to look back but can use the pain from that loss as a reminder.
The long, cold winter gives way to Springtime optimism and the Nationals know there is a lot standing in their way of championship glory. For every ground ball, unearned run, trip to the disabled list, mid-season trade, call to the bullpen, walk-off homerun, complete game shutout, 2-HR game, blown save, and miracle comeback the Nationals encounter this year, Nationals 101 will have it covered.
We begin the journey of the 2013 season with a 10-part Nationals season preview. Beginning Sunday, and for the next 10 days, will we cover a different angle of this Nationals team. So tune back right here for the first installment of the 2013 Washington Nationals preview.
